Case Ruukki
Ruukki Construction Oy has been using a real-time transport tracking solution in Finland since 2014, which enables Ruukki to offer its customers a higher quality service. The solution is based on Identoi Oy's Celesta products.
"The use of Celesta has been smooth after the initial training. Now we can send our customers information about the estimated delivery time by SMS. Our driving organizer can see on the map where our subcontractors' trucks are driving and we can send and receive messages with them," says Logistic Manager Janne Latvala from Ruukki Construction Oy and continues, "This has been a very successful project."
Ruukki's driving organizers use the Celesta Plan app, while the drivers use Celesta Mobile. With Celesta Plan, the driving organizer can see the location of all vehicles on the road and their unloading points on a map in real time. Messages can be sent between drivers and driving organizer, including messages, driving instructions, information on return loads and pictures of unloading points attached to reservations. The driver mobile app works on Android tablets and Android phones.
The app was also developed with the help of the driving coordinators and Ruukki's contracted drivers. The most recent functions implemented in the system include an electronic consignment note, where the customer's receipt of the delivery on the mobile device screen is transferred to Ruukki's archive system, and an electronic ticket that the driver fills in for the delivery. The data on the ticket is transferred to Celesta Plan, where the driving organizer checks the data and approves it for transmission to Ruukki's SAP system. The driver or subcontractor can view the data on their mobile device as a report.
Celesta also makes the driver's everyday life easier
Tehowatti Oy is a contract driver for Ruukki Construction Oy and has been using the Celesta Mobile application, implemented by Identoi, since the initial implementation of the application solution at Ruukki.
"The implementation of Celesta has been hassle-free for us. I've been involved in the development of the latest version, so it's been great to also be able to contribute to the development of the app from a transport perspective." says Jari Toppinen of Tehowatti Oy.
According to Toppinen, other drivers have also liked the simplicity of the application. He cites the reduction in paperwork as the biggest advantage of Celesta.
"We distribute roof tiles to customers and there are a lot of products, including all the roofing products, so there used to be a lot of paper. There can be up to thirty unloading points along the route. With the electronic waybill, the amount of freight paperwork has been halved. The aim is to develop the operation so that the documents that remain with the customer are also in electronic form." continues Toppinen. Tehowat has switched to electronic bookkeeping, and the company has also tried to minimise the use of paper in everything else, so Celesta is a good fit for the company's needs.
Tehowatti uses Celesta's Android version on both tablet and phone. Calling a customer is done directly from the app, so there's no need to search for or type contact details on the phone itself.
"The arrival of return loads and route instructions directly on the tablet has also made things easier, as we no longer have to call the transport company ourselves."
